For the most part, I'm delighted when I hear of friends having new babies. It's not like every glimpse of a tiny face reminds me that I can no longer bear children of my own.

But there have been a couple of times, recently, when women who were pregnant at the same time I had been are now having their second children, and I'm surprised by gut-wrench I feel at the happy news.
