Must Read Authors Revisited

A couple months ago I posted a list of my must-read authors. I was looking it over today, in light of a book-buying spree I was on over the last week or so.

Jeffrey Deaver came out with one called COLD MOON (I believe that's the title). It's a Lincoln Rhyme novel. Haven't grabbed it yet, as I still have his last (THE TWELFTH CARD) and the one before that (GARDEN OF BEASTS) to read before I do.

Michael Connelly came out with one about true crimes that he reported on in his days as a newspaper man, but I haven't gotten it yet. I think there is a strong chance it will end up on the remainder tables and I'll grab it then.

I'm about two books back on Elizabeth Peters' Emerson and Peabody series, and I haven't been driven to pick up her series right now.

Dean Koontz came out with one called THE HUSBAND. It sounds sort of interesting from the inside cover description. I've got a bunch of his that remain unread. I started one called THE TAKEN (I think) and didn't get far. I probably oughtta skip to the Odd Thomas stuff.

I just picked up HIT PARADE by Lawrence Block and hope to get to it soon. Keller is an interesting character.

I went crazy reading Robert Crais' stuff, he should probably be on my top ten must read writers now. The last one I read was called THE FORGOTTEN MAN. I have his latest and two other standalones (non-Elvis Cole books) to read.

I grabbed James Lee Burke's latest, but I'm about three or four behind on him.

Laura Lippmann has a new hardcover, NO GOOD DEEDS, out. It's a Tess Monaghan novel. Also out is a paperback called TO THE POWER OF THREE, which I bought and will try to get to soon. I love her standalone stuff.

KILL ME by Stephen White is sitting on my shelf, calling my name. I have to get to it soon...

Philip Margolin has a new one out but I didn't buy it. Yet. I haven't read his last one, LOST LAKE, yet.

I passed on Card's latest, something about magic.

Douglas Preston and Lincoln Child came out with another of the Pendergast novels, this one the finale of Pendergast's battle with his evil brother, Diogenes. The last was called DANCE WITH DEATH, but the title of this one escapes me, although I have already read it.

Not on my list was Denise Swanson, who is a local mystery writer who has made a name for herself with her Scumble River novels. They're all paperbacks, and her latest is called MURDER OF A REAL BAD BOY. I just finished MURDER OF A BARBIE AND KEN. What I like about these is they're set in the area I grew up in (and still live in) and I can find tons of references to local stuff that make them even more fun for me.

Friends recommended three writers to me, Randy Wayne White, who I didn't buy his book, and Joseph Finder, who I did buy his book, and Lee Child, who I also have bought a couple books by. We'll see how I like them. I suspect I'll love them, like I did Robert Crais and Harlan Coben.
