2007-08-06 12:45 PM Glavine wins #300 at Wrigley... Previous Entry :: Next Entry Read/Post Comments (1) ...and I was there...for most of it anyway.
It was an extremely hot and humid night. My boys are 5 and 7 and they were pretty well done by the 6th inning. I stretched it through the 7th, and the Cubs were sorta staging a comeback. 5-3 going into the 8th. But while we were leaving we heard the Mets score a 6th run. Then on the drive home I heard the final: 8-3. It was disappointing because the Brewers had lost earlier in the day, and the Cubs could have moved back into that virtual tie for first place had they won. No such luck. Marquis couldn't get ahead in the count, and aside from a nice inning from Kerry Wood, there was nothing very positive about the bullpen performances. But I did get to witness a bit of history. Tom Glavine, the 23rd pitcher and only (I think) the 5th lefty to do so, won his 300th game. And no one's ever done it in Wrigley before. Greg Maddux and Roger Clemens both got to attempt their 300th victories but neither was successful. (At least two others gave it a shot, but neither won or got the decision.) I was among the Cub faithful who stood when he came out of the game, gave him a standing ovation on a hot night, and really appreciated his performance. Now I'm wondering: What are 4 ticket stubs from that game worth on e-Bay? Read/Post Comments (1) Previous Entry :: Next Entry Back to Top |
