No Jam Sessions...:-(

Anyone who has followed my journal entries for any period of time might recall that I play keyboards, guitar and sing a bit, and have done so in numerous cover bands. Further, those same readers might recall that, back in December of 2006, I made some posts about some jam sessions we were doing then, song lists and details about the sessions.

You may have noticed that there haven't been subsequent entries about our jam sessions over the last year and a half. There is a good reason for the lack of entries. There have not been any jam sessions!

Do I miss them? Yes I do!

I have not played with musicians since December 10, 2006. I only remember the date because I went back and reviewed my old journal entries from that time. And I am really getting the itch again.

I have been thinking about songs to play. Lately I've been listening to what I call my "Forever CD" in the car, dubbed with that title because I only burned songs that I thought I probably would never tire of. (The thinking that led to me making my CD came from a question/post on a message board I follow.)

Songs that are on that CD include:

HOUSE IS A'ROCKIN', Stevie Ray Vaughn
BABY IT'S TONIGHT, Jude Cole
SHE DON'T LOVE ME, Bon Jovi
BLOOD AND ROSES, The Smithereens
JUST LIKE HEAVEN, The Cure
LET'S SAY GOODNIGHT, Los Lobos
SATAN'S BORDELLO, ExitSpecialists
ON MY STREET, ExitSpecialists
YOU GOT THAT RIGHT, Lynyrd Skynyrd
SAD SONGS, The Insiders
PUTNAM COUNTY LAKE THUNDERBIRD, Jeff Boyle
ROCK AND ROLL FANTASY, Bad Company
WHAT YOU NEED, INXS
THE BALLAD OF JOHN AND YOKO, The Beatles
LET THE DAY BEGIN, The Call
TRUCKIN', Dwight Yoakum
SUMMER NIGHTS, Survivor
(a title I can't come up with), Fastball

That's 18 titles (except for the one I can't think of), right? Then that's everything on the CD.

Out of those songs, I'd love to do HOUSE IS A'ROCKIN', BLOOD AND ROSES, JUST LIKE HEAVEN, SAD SONGS, YOU GOT THAT RIGHT, SATAN'S BORDELLO, and maybe PUTNAM COUNTY.

I have a potential lineup in mind. It would include Jeff Boyle himself on drums and vocals, my buddy Bill the left handed guitarist on guitars and vocals, my friend Ray (from a band I used to play with) on guitars and vocals, and my supply guy Bill on bass and vocals.

Oh yeah, and me on keyboards, rhythm and acoustic guitars, and vocals.

Now I haven't actually ASKED any of these people if they'd like to do this. But Jeff told me that he'd like to "retire" into a cover band and play drums, though not specifically a band with ME... (He didn't mention singing, but since he'd be the best vocalist in the band, I think he'd have to do some of the leads...) Bill the lefty said that he'd quit the 80's band he's been working with to come back and play with something I've put together. And Bill the supply guy has indicated that he's still open to getting together... Ray is the guy I haven't talked to in a couple years. But I did e-mail him and we'll see if I get a response.

Anyway, I'm hoping that there might be a Sunday or two this summer that I can at the very least get together with some combination of musicians... I have some good ideas about songs, and trying to stay within the talents of the band...
