Rambler Occasional Coherent Ramblings 402356 Curiosities served |

When I was reading comments on some blog or other, one caught my eye. I don't remember the specifics, but he had described his own work (very briefly) in a way that made me think I might enjoy it. His "signature" included a link to his own blog. So I started reading his stuff. Steven M. Moore has strong opinions, and they can be found articulately stated in many of his blog posts. I found myself agreeing with many of his thoughts. That is a positive, at least for me it is. So I tried an ebook. I downloaded his $0.99 The Secret Lab, a young adult SF thriller set on a space station in the not-too-distant future. I enjoyed it, and my older son started it and, while school reading has gotten in his way, he likes the part he's read. So I tried another. Full Medical is another thriller, set within the next hundred or so years, and so far it's been almost scary. As the title implies, it deals at least partly with the direction our current healthcare system is going, taken to extremes. I'm interested in this issue (see my blog posts from the archives back around the time Obama was running for president - 2007, early 2008, a few in 2009 - if you care to read any of my ramblings) due to my profession and my own age. I'm already scared, so it isn't taking much to frighten me further. Full Medical isn't a "bargain book". I believe it was priced at $4.99. I won't hesitate, however, to try more of Steven M. Moore's work in the near future. Next in line I have Tim Pratt's Marla Mason tale, Grim Tides and a Barry Eisler title Fault Line that I picked up on the bargain shelves. They both look promising. I'm confident I'll enjoy Pratt's book because I've read the rest of the series. I'm new to Eisler, but I've read some of his blog discussions with Joe Konrath, and what I've peaked at in the hardcover (a $5.98 priced book) makes me think I'm gonna like this one too. Happy reading! ***** Read/Post Comments (4) Previous Entry :: Next Entry Back to Top |
