Yeah, I'm a southerner

Okay, I've been seeing links to this site all over the internet, with all sorts of people going on about how funny it is.

Sorry, I usually have a great sense of humor, but I don't find it funny in the slightest. In fact I find it pretty fucking offensive. His rant has so many inaccuracies in it, I don't even know where to start. (Though I'm sure my mother can fill in some with statistics about segregation and discrimination in northern states.)

I'm a southerner. I was born in the South. I went to college at Georgia Tech. I've never lived above the Mason-Dixon line. I hate cold weather. I have no desire to ever live in the north for more reasons that just the weather.

I like the south. It's laid-back and un-assuming. It has a rich culture lacking in arrogance. It has a delightfully low cost of living. I live in a two-story, 4 bdrm, 2.5 bath 2600 sq ft house on a large lot that I bought for under $180,000. How many people from the west coast can say that? Gas is $1.80/gallon. The schools in my area are excellent. The only natural disaster we have is hurricanes and those you can see coming in time to evacuate. Yes, it's hot, but that's why god invented air conditioning.

News flash: I don't have a rebel flag hanging in my garage. I don't belong to the KKK. I go to church. I don't believe in Creationism. I have all of my teeth. I have a college education. I can use the word "caveat" in a sentence properly. I respect the fact that I get a great deal for my tax dollar. I support gay marriage. And you know what? There are lots and lots of southerners just like me.

This whole red state/blue state thing pisses me off. Umm... has everyone forgotten that just because a state's electoral votes went a certain direction, it doesn't mean that everyone in the state voted that way?? Ridiculous rants like the one above, full of venom and hate and massive stereotyping are viewed as "funny" because it's about the south, and it's all right to bash the south. Right?

And the author doesn't even have the fucking guts to sign his rant. It's easy to spew hatred anonymously.
