2005-11-01 5:36 AM Halloween Well, it turned out that our neighborhood was pretty attractive to a lot of trick or treaters, which was a good thing since I seriously overbought on candy. (I have a great fear of running out.) But with so many areas still in shambles or with big debris piles in the streets, we kinda expected people from other areas to come to our subdivision. I live in a small safe development with about 60 houses, with only one way in or out, with nice families and lots of kids. Which means that parents can bring their kids, drop the older ones at the front and let them go their own way without worrying about them getting lost, or, if they have little ones, walk with them without getting too worn out. (A complete circuit of our neighborhood is .8 miles.) So, we had the first wave, which was the local kids, then the second wave which was the local kids coming back for seconds (we give out the Good Candy), then we had the waves of the big carpools of kids and parents. In fact, it was kind of a model halloween. I don't think we had any teenagers, save for those accompanying younger ones, and everyone was in costume. We didn't take Anna around trick or treating since a) I never did get around to figuring out a costume for her and b) she's too young to remember it anyway and c)god knows we didn't need any more candy! I was sweating getting rid of the stuff we did have. But, out of around 14 or 15 bags of candy, we only have one bowl left, so it worked out close to perfectly. Halloween is my favorite holiday of the year. You get to dress up if you want (and I love costuming) and there's really no pressure to cook, or buy presents, or be at anyone's house, or anything like that. About all you have to do is buy candy if you're going to stay home, and if you don't want to do that you can go out and go to a party. And, I spent less than $30 on candy, which I consider quite reasonable for an enjoyable evening. Today I am taking the day off of work to finish getting myself and the house ready for being gone a week. I need to get more of Anna's clothing washed, and iron more shirts for Jack (Yes, I iron my husband's shirts.) I also need to get some writing in today and finish packing. And I hear Precious Babykins waking up; she just turned on her little ocean wonders music thingy in her crib. Perfect timing. Read/Post Comments (3) Previous Entry :: Next Entry Back to Top |
