Run, don't walk, away from this epic disaster.

Basic story: Earthquakes. Rogue scientist with theory. Several bad relationships (parental, marital -- you name it). Fifty million lives at risk. Nuclear warheads.

And that about sums it up. Thanks to NBC for wasting a tidy sum of money on schlock. Kudos to the actors for making the best of what they had.

What's to like? Um... Give me a second.

What's to not like?

Stupidity
Okay, people, if the space needle is falling and you're in the path of the fall, and you're riding a bicycle, do you ride straight ahead (in the shadow of the needle's path) and risk getting squished, or do you take a right-hand turn and move 20 feet to safety? (10.5 answer: Squish)

Hokey science
I'll admit off the bat that I'm not up on my earthquake science, but it's the presentation that gets me. It comes across as "let's just give the schlubs out there techno-babble, they won't know the difference." There's not a single thing to defend or even give this a pretense at being realistic.

Stylistically bad, bad, bad camera work (take your dramamine).
Zoom in, out, in a little, out a lot, handheld shots, good god, people, this is supposed to be drama not MTV!

Cliche upon cliche
Oh, my god, the world will end. Won't anyone listen to me? You never listen to me. Well I'd listen to you if you weren't so annoying. Father-daughter bonding trip. The world is going to end. The astmatic losing her aspirator and being miles and miles away from a CVS.

Whining blonde bimbo
Will somebody shut that whiny, self-absorbed, spoiled brat up, already? Thank god she lost her aspirator.

Bad application of physics
Yeah, I believe that in the middle of an 7.8 earthquake, a guy on a bike will be able to not only stay balanced, but to make a leap up onto, and over, a car. Oh, and I also believe that there'd be power after that. Oh, and I also believe that it's possible to fuse the earth's crust together enough to prevent a chain reaction of earthquakes (enter the tac nukes), without the force of the explosions setting off earthquakes on their own.

If you've got it on your TiVo, save the space.
