September 2000

Saturday, September 2

"Pieces Of Us From The Earth" came back from the Writers' Of The Future Contest. Damn. I need to get a new story sent back there by the end of the month which is the last quarter of the year.
I only have two stories circulating the markets and five stories still on my desk.

By the end of the month I'm aiming to have two new Trek stories for Strange New Worlds IV. The deadline is October 1. So that makes three new stories by the end of the month plus any desk stories I can get out the door. That should be possible. One of those desk stories is a third Trek story.

More Later.

Monday, September 11

It's great to hope for the success of a fellow writer. At the workshop last Tuesday, two of us reported stories returned from Writers Of The Future. Eric Witchey hadn't received word at that time. I hope that means something good for him. I'll find out at the workshop tomorrow night.

His story deals with DNA cloning, a future society, and Burns and Gracie. It was a fabulous story. I think it could place in the contest.

Elsewhere, it looks like Paula Fleming (of the Naw journals) got semi-finalist in WOTF. Congrats Paula!

More later.

Saturday, September 16

Eric still hasn't hard from WOTF. One might suspect his entry is up there in the finalists, fighting for first, second, or third place. I'm still hoping he gets good news.

Meanwhile, I gotta get this first Trek story out the door. Two weeks before the end of the month!

More later.

Saturday, September 23

Well, just to keep any interested readers updated, Eric still hasn't heard from WOTF yet. All of us in Eugene are wondering if this is a good thing. I know I'm hoping he gets good news, whether it's a finalist/honorable mention or one of the top three. Eric keeps thinking maybe his manuscript was lost.

I must work harder on my Trek story this weekend. It needs to be in the mail on Thursday at the latest. Then I need a WOTF story to go out by midnight Saturday night.

More later.

Friday, September 29

A short update for those who are curious.
Fellow Wordo, Eric Witchey (he drives down from Portland for our workshop), got second place in the last quarter of Writers Of The Future! His first professional sale.

I knew that story could win! I'm so jazzed for him. And a little envious too. I want to go to that WOTF week long workshop next year.
I need to get my entry in the mail by Saturday night.

More later.
