Feedback

I've been back from Rockaway for two days now and I've also been working at the day job again. On top of that there's been all that reading for the novel workshop.

Alas, I can't say I finsished a story at Rockaway. In fact, I had trouble with starting the damned thing. It felt emotionally distant and I didn't feel 'on.' The urge to write dwindled quickly. Frustrating. The bananna bread french toast I had at R&R cafe on Saturday morning was good, though. On Sunday, however, they were out of bananna bread, so I had the same thing X was having--apple cinnamon pancakes. Those were a worthy alternative.

So I had a weekend of hanging out at a beach house and eating high-carb breakfast food. We got to Rockaway late Friday night and we had to leave early Sunday evening. No, this wasn't the best Rockaway, but I'll still look forward to the next one.

A note about reading manuscripts for the novel workshop:

Creating a story and a world with words is very difficult. It's almost a miracle a story gets told at all. I have submitted a novel to this upcoming workshop. I've also been reading three novels worth of material from workshop participants. It's just astounding to see the levels everyone else is at and seeing some of the same problems I was having with the writing of my novel.

Amazing Never-Knew-it-before Fact For The Day:

X works for audiologists. Today I found out this: the ear canal is another place where bodyfat is stored. When someone comes into the audiologist and complains of feedback from the hearing aid, one sure question is: Have you lost some weight lately? Ah-ha, when the fat is gone from the ear canal, the canal widens, hence the feedback.

It's all in the details.
