I hate being made to look like an idiot, especially in front of co-workers. Thanks to some dumb bastard in my department, though, I get to experience that feeling of vague queasiness and righteous indignance.

There was a meeting this afternoon regarding our Employee Health department, and part of it was a specific task I needed to acomplish - transferring an Excel database they've been keeping into a Microsoft Access database. No problem - that's something that will take me about ten minutes to finish. I'm the IS guy here, and it's my job to handle these things.

So, after I spend five minutes explaining how I'm going to go about transferring the data over and letting people know that there's no chance of data loss since the original Excel spreadsheet will be untouched, this guy pipes up. He lets everybody know that he's got a meeting this Wednesday with one of the members of Information Services to discuss the matter, and that they've decided to use a different program in which to keep the data.

I knew about NONE of this. I got to sit there while this guy - who's the frickin' receptionist in our department, for crying out loud - tells a group of directors that essentially, he's gone ahead and done my job for me, going over my head in the process, and didn't inform me of the decision. New program? Didn't know we were going to use it. This Wednesday meeting? Hadn't heard about it. You know, I'm only the Informations Systems guy here... heaven forbid I actually know what the fuck is going on with the information systems.

I'm gonna fucking choke someone.
