This afternoon I was editing some of the pages for the April update, and I almost decided to take away all of the lush designs at Shenanchie’s Kitchen and replace them with simple pages with minimal graphics. As it is, each page is different and requires its own style sheet for text, link rollovers and scrollbar effects. As I keep adding pages to the site (Diabetic and Vegan recipes to debut in April), I also have to keep adjusting the site’s navigation menu. I finally created a simple inline frame that includes links to all pages on the site, and I’ve inserted the frame on every page (offline). However, because of the varying designs, there is not one color combination that matches. I settled for a bland light gray for the inline frame, but on the darker designs this still seems off.

 

Since I am running out of time and can’t really make any major changes at this point, perhaps come July I’ll rid Shenanchie’s Kitchen of the heavy graphics and make do with a simpler, cleaner design (apart from the homepage). I know it will make my life much easier, and save gobs of time. But it will definitely be a stretch to erase the beautiful backgrounds I’ve had at my disposal from Moon & Back Graphics.
