As I was updating Shenanchie’s Kitchen offline yesterday (getting ready for April), I decided the schedule for July’s feature articles. Rather than research and write about New Zealand for Savorys by Shenanchie, I have instead decided to put together an article about Italy. To correspond with the flavors, the July piece at Food Fare will be all about olive trees and olive oil.

I have long put off writing about Italy for one reason: my second husband was Italian, and rankle from that ghastly marriage took a long time to dissipate. I realize this has nothing to do with food and culture, but I just couldn’t bring myself to research and write about the country of my ex-husband’s origin, and that of his family. However, Italian food is perhaps one of the best forms of cuisine, and I rank it along with Mexican, Irish and Japanese – all of which are my favorites.

My mother is also a great lover of Italian food, and I hope with the July feature I can bring some original yet unusual recipes to the piece. Where is Mum when I want to experiment?
