Mexican Dining
Previous Entry :: Next Entry

This has been a Mexican food-orientated day. I rarely eat breakfast, but this morning I had a freshly cooked flour tortilla with butter and a cup of coffee; for lunch I heated up a chicken tamale (bought from the little market close to my home), and for dinner my husband and I tried the locally-owned La Luna restaurant. The eatery also sells imported Mexican foods and goods, as well as homemade tortillas.

I suppose one gets spoiled by other venues (such as we have been by the Case de Oro restaurant), because I found the inside of La Luna to be somewhat grubby (utensils were smudged and dull, the spoon with a bit of food still stuck on). I can usually forgive such lack of cleanliness if the food is outstanding, but we were sorely disappointed in both. Once our plates arrived, the food was tepid, and small enough in portion to belie the price tag. There is nothing more distasteful than eating a lukewarm cheese enchilada; in addition, the rice and beans were dry and almost tasteless. After the meal, we were going to buy some of La Luna’s tortillas, but the asking price of $6.49 for a package of twenty-four was a bit too much too swallow after the food. I can make up to six dozen tortillas from my Quaker mix for just over $2.50, and they taste better to boot.

So we live and learn - but when my husband and I feel another yen for Mexican food again, I think we’ll stick to our old standby Casa de Oro.
