2004-05-06 1:55 PM Taco Frenzy Previous Entry :: Next Entry Read/Post Comments (0) I’ve made a little pig out of myself today. For some reason I was craving Mexican food, so I drove over to Taco Bell and loaded up on bean burritos (for my husband), and three crunchy tacos for myself along with a small order of nachos. Afterward, I had a cup of coffee with two of the new “blonde” Oreo cookies, half of which I shared with Foofer (the side without frosting). I suppose that wouldn’t be so bad if I hadn’t also consumed an old-fashioned donut this morning (still warm from the shop that sells them), and a tall glass of RC Cola. I never stop to consider my eating habits when I get hungry – typically I only eat lunch and I’m done for the day. Prior to today’s frenzy, my last meal was yesterday around three o’clock in the afternoon when I ate lunch. Four hours after that I did my twenty-minute workout with weights as if by automation – I’ve recently gotten back into the habit after a bit of laxity following a bout of illness in early April.
Speaking of cola (I was), the prices of brand names like Pepsi and Coke have skyrocketed appallingly. My husband usually buys soda in bulk (twelve-packs when they are on sale for under $10 for three or four), so I was unaware of the rising cost of a two-liter bottle of cola. I remember less than a year ago when two-liters ran for $1.19 (or $1.29 at the most), but last Saturday I saw both Pepsi and Coke going for $2.89 each. The two-liter bottle of RC Cola was a tad better at $1.88.
Did I miss something? Does cola include scarce and increasingly expensive ingredients such as dairy products, vanilla or meat? I didn’t think so. I have a feeling the rising costs have to do with greedy corporate bunglers, who despite their claims do not consider the needs or desires of consumers a priority.
