2007-03-30 5:08 PM Amazon, Hugos, and dragon dogs Previous Entry :: Next Entry Read/Post Comments (2) No news to report here except that my Amazon order arrived and I've got The Sherwood Ring, hurray! I've only read the first 6 pages so far, but I loved them and can't wait to read the rest. I also got another more practical and yet far less exciting book shipment in the mail: the second edition of Living in the United Kingdom: A Journey to Citizenship. Sigh. I know what I should spend all weekend reading. I also know what I want to spend all weekend reading...
Right now I'm mostly counting down the days until the 5-day Easter weekend, when we'll be off to Bristol for relaxation and (if we're lucky with the weather) lots of time spent reading novels outside in the garden. Mmmm.... And meanwhile, huge congratulations to Ben Rosenbaum and Tim Pratt for their Hugo nominations! I loved both of those stories, and I'm so happy to see them nominated. And can I just say how happy I am to see Naomi Novik on the list twice? Her Temeraire series is the best. (Someone pointed out to me: "You have noticed that her dragons are basically dogs, right?" And I said: "YES! That is why they are SO BRILLIANT!" And they are. You don't need to have a dog to love Temeraire, but if you do, you'll love him even more. Actually, there was a while last year when we referred to Nika as our Temeraire, and now we refer to Maya as Iskierka because...well, if you read the third book and then meet Maya, you will know. She just is!) (And yes, I am a dorky fangirl. But I enjoy it too much to stop.) Happy weekend everybody! Read/Post Comments (2) Previous Entry :: Next Entry Back to Top |
