Push, Nevada

Intrigued

Okay, so last night I watched Push, Nevada, and I must say, it was really interesting. The show is very Twin Peaks meets X-Files. It centers around a town in the middle of nowhere, a large sum of money that is stolen, and an IRS agent that gets involved in the whole mess, a stranger to this quirky, quiet, strange little desert town.

However, not only is the show a mystery, it is also a mystery game. There are clues that you have to pick up on during the show, and if you get the right pieces together, you can win the cash prize that they have. I forget the exact amount, but it's just ove a mil. It's executive produced by Ben Affleck and some other guy, and the way it is set up really blurs the line between fantasy and reality.

There is a random website that showed up in the credits. This website leads to several other websites, many are community websites, business websites (mostly stuff that shows up in the show), articles, etc. All of these sites appear to be legit businesses, schools, a casino, etc. There are addresses, phone numbers (that actually work), people's names, directions, etc. There is even a website for a Toyota of Push, and a Chamber of Commerce. The main website is linked to real Nevada news articles, and mentions nothing about the show itself. It is all very complicated and detailed, and full of references to things that happened in the show, but no mention that it is a show. It is all very convincing, considering that Push, Nevada doesn't exist as a real place. It's actually kinda eerie how detailed it looks. If you simply stumbled across it, I don't see how you would know it was fictional without looking for it on a real map. Someone actually paid attention here.

The producers have already said that if the show doesn't last a full season, they will still continue the game and give away the prize money. Two entertainment magazines are betting that the show isn't going to last a whole season. I think it is just different enough and interesting enough to last (although what do I know, my favorite shows always get cancelled). Although I may not follow it closely enough for the prize, I think it is one of the most clever set ups that I've seen for a show yet.

I believe they will be replaying the first episode on Thursday, but I could be mistaken. There's a two hour special of it, and I reccomend giving it a shot.
