I'll probably go into more detail about some of these experiences, but here's a general overview of the past week-ish. Wednesday was a concert of about 3 bands, including one called VHS or Beta, at the waterfront on the Ohio river. Discovering that there was a waterfront, and that it was the Ohio river were two good achievements on Wednesday. Met some fabulous people, friends of co-workers, and got a wonderful walking tour of downtown as Chuck from work walked me to the hotel. A fount of wisdom of Louisville history that guy is. Thursday, worked late, went to Hard Rock Cafe for dinner, went to comedy show at Rascals, bought a comedy CD from each of the headliners Carl LaBove and Alysia Wood and met each of them personally, as the crowd was small and most everyone left as soon as the acts were over. Was invited to go dancing at the "Dirty Soul Party" which is a weekly club thing, soul, R&B, and even some disco apparently, but I didn't get out of the show early enough. Friday, had Happy Hour at Hard Rock Cafe (much of the office was there, including Chuck, who knew people there), then went to Karen's place by way of Bardstown Road, which has a lot of local, eccentric, and unique shops, hangouts, etc. Would make a great walk if I had the time and daylight to trek the whole long thing, or parts of it at least. Really neat stuff. Had dinner and drinks outside in a Gazebo watching lightning bugs and experiencing the wildest thunder and lightning storm that I still have not found the right words to explain it with any justice whatsoever. I may try yet again to do so on this journal in the future. Saturday was a double feature. Met Chuck at the theater and I swear he frickin knows everyone in the city, runs into people all over the place who know him. Raiders of the Lost Ark (Not ToD as I previously posted) and Last Crusade. It was cool watching the films again. The coolest thing ever was the Palace Theater, which you HAVE TO check out the pictures in their gallery. It is the most gorgeous theater that I have ever seen, ever. Sculptures everywhere, including sculptures of heads in the ceiling of famous musicians, philosophers, artists, and whatnot. Between movies we had n hour to kill, and went to a "Goth Clothing Swap" which was pretty much exactly that, a bunch of booths of goths selling goth stuff. I got a White Wolf vampire print and a hardbound copy of Good Omens. Not bad. That evening, we went to this place to see the band Digby, who Chuck is friends with, along with their SO's and many others at the club. The show was great, though the bar was a bit smokey because its, well a bar. They sounded good, and were all very nice. It was cool being "with the band" as it was. Sunday was Six Flags, which I'll talk about later. The rest of this week will include more days of working late, possibly another show, possibly Brett Butler, who is the next comic at the comedy club, and definitely the Gallery Hop, where free trolleys circulate the art galleries and eating places around Louisville. There's a lot of galleries. It should be cool. And Chuck will probably know everyone there. I think he's got celebrity status in Louisville that he is not telling me about.
