I'm a web developer for NOVICA. I'm fascinated by languages, even though I only speak English and a little Spanish. I can count in Korean and have numerous language and linguistics books. I'm living within walking distance of CSUN where I share an apartment with my girlfriend and 2 cats. I'm happy. I write sporadically (I really need to finish that short story), with every intention of making a living at it at an undisclosed point in the future. I taught physics at Emperor's College Winter Term 2008. I love games and stories and music and computers and science and "and." I drink my coffee 100% black 80% of the time and 80% black 20% of the time. Also, there are other things. 7332 42 | ||

Mood: Intrigued by my confusion with life Read/Post Comments (0) |
2003-02-16 4:03 PM pbp, Harry Dresden, and Korean Entry started 3:03pm
pbpI ate a cookie--chocolate chip...Last night I played reporter at the final pbp. I was confused all evening. I thought the nametags all said php. I was there with Sue, my photographer friend. The Hollywood American Legion building was packed with fans of Joss Whedon's creations: Buffy, Angel, and Firefly. The event was a party for fans and a charity event for Make a Wish Foundation. I saw James 1, aka Spike and James 2 aka 'Clem the loose skinned demon.' Sue introduced James Leary to Sarah Hagan, who plays a Slayer named Amanda introduced in the 7th season. I saw Julie, who I think is Julie Benz(1,000 times cuter in person) who plays Darla, Iyari Limon who plays Kennedy(I wrote her name down as Larry Lamone, which I assumed was incorrect...). It was interesting to see Vladimir Kulich and his Angel character 'The Beast' mingling in the same crowd. The bands Darling Violetta, Four Star Mary, and Common Rotation (largely known for their numerous apperances on the buffy soundtrack) all rocked. I'll post a link when sue puts up the pictures on cinescape.com next week. HarryI met another fellow, who will remain nameless for now, who introduced me to Harry Dresden (I found this website). He described this as a grown up version of Harry Potter. There is a very, very interesting connection between Harry Dresden and Buffy the Vampire Slayer, of which I'm not at liberty to reveal to you at the present.memoryWhenever I play reporter, I'm reminded at how underused my memory skills are. I'm amazed at the details I remember from earlier interviews when I see someone like James 2 for the 2nd time, but I'm dismayed at how many times I had to glance at the Beast's name tag before I finally wrote down 'Vladamir Kulich.' More on memory in a second...tattoosAt any sci-fi fan gathering, you can expect to see someone with tattoos (odds are that you'll see someone with tattoos at most gatherings...) and two interesting canvases caught my eye. The first was a thin, yet muscular blond with matching celtic patterns the length of her tricepts. I don't recall seeing tatoos in this location before. This put me in 'search for interesting tatoos' mode. I then noticed a woman in a long open backed dress with two chinese characters between her shoulder blades. I copied them down as best as I could, but I've yet to find a good translation. This brings me back to memory. I figure that If I make it a point to learn the meaning of a whole bunch of Chinese characters, that I will improve my memory skills in the process. Thus...KoreanI've had a Korean textbook for 5 years now. Today I completed lesson 1(almost, I still need to conjugate 3 verbs...) while listening to K-pop streams. The rest of my day will consist of tackling lesson 2, finding a copy of Storm Front, and having some shaved ice at this nice little japanese place on Sawtelle, just north of Olympic.I have tomorrow off! Woot! Read/Post Comments (0) Previous Entry :: Next Entry Back to Top |
