I'm a web developer for NOVICA. I'm fascinated by languages, even though I only speak English and a little Spanish. I can count in Korean and have numerous language and linguistics books. I'm living within walking distance of CSUN where I share an apartment with my girlfriend and 2 cats. I'm happy. I write sporadically (I really need to finish that short story), with every intention of making a living at it at an undisclosed point in the future. I taught physics at Emperor's College Winter Term 2008. I love games and stories and music and computers and science and "and." I drink my coffee 100% black 80% of the time and 80% black 20% of the time. Also, there are other things. 7332 42

Not the normal intro

I dreamt last night a dream that could become quite an interesting little ghost story. I wrote down an outline, and turned my thoughts to other things.

Last night I spent some time with a friend at his recording studio. Among other things, I was reminded of the similarity of most rock intros. 8 or sixteen bars of music before the first words are loosed. Also last night I watched a rather interesting Documentary, called Sing Faster. The special features listed serveral other documentaries, including one about Sophie B. Hawkins. I'd always loved her voice, so I downloaded her greatest hits off of iTunes. The first song I listened to was As I Lay Me Down. Her voice sent chills down my spine, but more importantly, she started singing on an off beat of the fith measure. Actually, it could be a farely standard intro, in 2/2 time, but it was refreshing nonetheless.

One of my favorite examples of breaking this convention is the opening to Smashing Pumpkins Bullet with Butterfly Wings. The intro is an acapella "The world is a Vampire" What are your favorite songs with interesting intros? Talk amongst yourself.
