I fell in love with a sales rep
Eyes so sweet and pure
Listening to my questions
Patience her allure.

Left hand cutely writing
Words from my request
Nodding while she noted
Swiftly down the rest.

She turned and bid me follow
But I, oh foolish I!
Let our walk go but three steps
I should've told a lie.

So back to the counter
I placed my special order.
The whimsy that brought me here
Though not the reason after.

I asked her if the store
had a singer's songs in stock
I guessed my hope would be a much
as finding a flightless stork.

And here's the deal!
She knew the name, not many do
I knew here was a match
and there might not be two!

But tragedy cruel lies in wait
In a nay-say'n cross-armed heart.
I should've listened to the shard in love
and not the cold bespect'd part.

I should've bought the two last ones
lying there on the shelf.
One for me and one for her
Wishing her good health.

But I left the store, my heart in tow
It knew it was my loss
To leave behind this sweet divine
Fair angel bent down low.

I turned around and risked a look
to find her in the crowd
She wasn't there, why should she be?
I was a stranger in a shroud.

I hope return to the store someday
And catch her eye just once
Maybe the last one will still be there
And I'll make it up to her...
