Crayons smell good.

I once worked with a waitress who did leave crayons in her car, in the sun. Apparently no one had ever given her that tip.

I admit I save my daughter's old crayons (transfer them to one of a few larger boxes) to reuse one day, I say. I think it's my nose compelling me to hoard them.

And as a kid I never said I wanted to color so I could smell the crayons, but once my grandma would pull out her circus tin of crayons it was all over with for me. I remembered the smell, and melted ... like crayons in the sun.

The only thing better than the smell of crayons is the smell of sharp crayons. Well, the smell is the same, but coloring with a pointy tip beats a dull one. The one time I got in trouble in grade school was when I negotiated with my fellow kindergarteners for the sharp crayons ... while the teacher was talking. I believe it was worth it.
