2007-09-16 3:59 PM New Job... Again Previous Entry :: Next Entry Read/Post Comments (6) So I'm starting a new job a week from tomorrow. This will be my 7th job since graduating from college 11 years ago.
I've worked at major magazines, popular catalogs and a famous department store. Now, my career is pulling me through advertising agencies. Specifically, pharmaceutical advertising agencies. This is what you get with a degree in Communications, I guess. The thing is, I only really liked one of my jobs so far. I was not only doing what I like -- reading a wide variety of books and manuscripts, writing headlines and catalog copy -- but I was working with great people who would become my friends outside of the office. I was very lucky. And I have yet to duplicate that experience. Peat says I haven't liked any of my subsequent jobs because I just don't like working. And that's true, to a degree. Editing sucks ass. I'm not especially good at it, and it bores me. (Also, a few of my bosses have been assholes, which will ruin any job, no matter how satisfying.) I'm writing again now, and will be at this new place, but it's for pharmaceutical sales reps, and it's not very creative or emotionally satisfying. Heck, it's Big Pharma - I'm lucky to still have a soul! If I could write creatively, and work with fun people who realize that our jobs are not rocket science or heart surgery and isn't that important in the grand scheme of things and therefore not worthy of high stress and long nights, I would be happy. But so far, I have not found that situation. Maybe job #8... Read/Post Comments (6) Previous Entry :: Next Entry Back to Top |
