2007-10-28 4:06 PM Drowning in overtime Previous Entry :: Next Entry Read/Post Comments (4) I started my new job a month ago. Four weeks, I've been there. And for the past two, I've been working past 9pm every day. Sometimes past 11. On Friday past 1:30am.
1:30AM! We missed the company Hallowe'en party. Everyone in the company dressed up last Thursday except for my team: six people out of 80. And we six stayed behind while everyone else was taken by bus to some hotel's ballroom for a night of costumed debauchery. Apparently, the team also missed their Summer party this year. And according to my boss -who has changed his tune since I interviewed with him - the average time people leave the office is 8pm. He did say that in June he was getting out at 6 or 7pm, but when pressed I found out that that's because he went in at 8am. Needless to say, I am miserable. Again. I plan on going into my boss and his boss, if necessary, and explaining that I am simply not going to do this anymore. I will not work these hours, and if they want to switch me to a different brand, that's fine. And if not, I will simply look for another job. Again. (I mean, I AM looking for another job already - I'm back on Monster and Hotjobs and Careerbuilder and Mediabistro and Craigslist and the NY Times, but I have no qualms about being more open about it if this horrible situation continues.) But all of that doesn't negate the fact that I spent time and money getting a Hallowe'en costume together and was looking forward to meeting more people at the company than just the few people I've been spending 70 hours a week with. I feel like a kid who got coal in their Christmas stocking. Read/Post Comments (4) Previous Entry :: Next Entry Back to Top |
