Past time actually. I finished the book in late September, got the last of my readers' feedback in January. It is time to actually rewrite the book, which may impact my posting here or may not. We'll see. I've given myself an early deadline of April 15, highly doable, or May 1, if things go wonky.

For now, quotes on rewriting from Writing Habits and Write Quotes:

I'm not a great writer, I'm a great rewriter. - Paddy Chayefsky

The unconscious creates; the ego edits. - Stanley Kunitz

If you start to revise before you've reached the end, you're likely to begin dawdling with the revisions and putting off the difficult task of writing. - Pearl S. Buck

Erasure is as important as writing. Prune what is turgid, elevate what is commonplace, arrange what is disorderly, introduce rhythm where language is harsh, modify where it is too absolute. The best method of correction is to put aside for a time what we have written, so that when we come to it again it may have an aspect of novelty, as of being another man's work; in this way we may preserve ourselves from regarding our writings with the affection we lavish upon a newborn child. - Marcus Fabius Quintilianus

Re-examine each sentence that you put on paper. Be grateful for everything that you can throw away. Is every word doing new and useful work? Can any thought be expressed with more economy? Are you hanging on something useless just because you think it's beautiful? Simplify, simplify. - William Zinsser

Books aren't written - they're rewritten. Including your own. It is one of the hardest things to accept, especially after the seventh rewrite hasn't quite done it. - Michael Crichton

Good work doesn't happen with inspiration. It comes with constant, often tedious and deliberate effort. If your vision of a writer involves sitting in a cafe, sipping an aperitif with one's fellow geniuses, become a drunk. It's easier and far less exhausting. - William Hefferman

Writing is rewriting... If you fall in love with the vision you want of your work and not your words, the rewriting will become easier. - Nora DeLoach

Don't get discouraged because there's a lot of mechanical work to writing...I rewrote the first part of Farewell to Arms at least fifty times. - Ernest Hemingway

I have never thought of myself as a good writer. Anyone who wants reassurance of that should read one of my first drafts. But I'm one of the world's great rewriters. - James A Michener

Rewriting is like scrubbing the basement floor with a toothbrush. - Pete Murphy

A ratio of failures is built into the process of writing. The wastebasket has evolved for a reason. - Margaret Atwood

There are days when the result is so bad that no fewer than five revisions are required. In contrast, when I'm greatly inspired, only four revisions are needed. - John Kenneth Galbraith

The difference between the right word and the almost right word is the difference between lightning and the lightning bug. - Mark Twain (Samuel Clemens)

Once you start rewriting, you're not able to stop. With each draft the fundamental banality and worthlessness of the material becomes more evident even as its vitality and spontaneity are drained from it. - Barry N. Malzberg

The best writing is rewriting. - E. B. White
