Plain Banter . . . lies about science fiction, and everything else. When the writer becomes the center of his attention, he becomes a nudnik. And a nudnik who believes he's profound is even worse than just a plain nudnik. -- Isaac Bashevis Singer |

2004-01-21 7:56 PM Backing up a bit -- Who am I? An introduction. Hello, my name is Brian.
Okay, the blog is a week old today and I haven't lost interest yet, so let me back up just a bit. I know there are lots of folks who follow blogs, so perhaps I have some new readers who didn't find their way here through my website. If so, welcome. I apologize for not introducing myself earlier. I suppose it doesn't help, either, that I have that Nabokov quote at the top of the page instead of some sort of blurb telling you who I am. Somewhere (down a bit) in the big list of Things I Am is the title "writer." More specifically, genre fiction writer, mostly specializing in science fiction, with an occasional turn at horror and fantasy. I've sold about 45 stories so far. You can find out more than you really want to know about me at the website. As you will see, I don't take myself or the website too seriously all the time, and that will certainly be the case here in blog land. This blog, as is the case with all the other components of my website, is a sort of advertising tool, I suppose. Just promoting the writing and all that. Too many writers have static websites that hardly ever get updated, and when I decided to do a website, I wanted to have new stuff on a regular basis to keep folks coming back. The blog is replacing another feature (the Graffiti Board) that I updated daily for four years. Well, I probably won't be posting every day in the blog, but let's see if I can keep it going as long as the Graffiti Board. I guess that's all you need to know for now. Science fiction writer -- check. Sense of humor -- check. Shameless self-promoter -- check. Hey -- American Idol is coming on -- gotta go!
