Plain Banter . . . lies about science fiction, and everything else. When the writer becomes the center of his attention, he becomes a nudnik. And a nudnik who believes he's profound is even worse than just a plain nudnik. -- Isaac Bashevis Singer |

2004-08-20 7:18 AM Olympic Moments, part 11 Make-up. Perhaps women's gymnastics and figure skating are the two main sports where the participants "doll up" with cosmetics. But the ladies in gymnastics are very young, and not particularly skillful in applying it. There's plenty of racoon eyes and blue eye-shadow in evidence. Svetlana has darkened the hollows of her cheeks so that she looks like Skeletor. And a mob of them have sparkles in their hair. Maybe this looks OK from the upper deck (where no one is sitting) but it's grossly overdone for the TV closeups.
