Plain Banter . . . lies about science fiction, and everything else. When the writer becomes the center of his attention, he becomes a nudnik. And a nudnik who believes he's profound is even worse than just a plain nudnik. -- Isaac Bashevis Singer |

2004-10-27 8:38 AM Why I'll spare you my political views I was thinking about writing an entry on the presidential race and why you should vote for whom I voted for, but then I thought better of it. First of all, this blog is supposed to be mainly about writing & reading science fiction and related stuff, so it's off-topic. But the thing that argues most against my posting a political rant is my "qualifications." Or lack thereof. For the purposes of this blog, I'm a science-fiction writer. Nobody's reading this for voting information, and any advice I give will turn off about half of the people who read it.
Does anyone care who Barbra Streisand or Bruce Springsteen supports politically? I sure don't. I'd rather listen to a bunch of reasonably well-informed people on, say, The McLaughlin Group argue politics (even if I disagree with them), than hear some bubble-headed rock star tell me why we must vote for John Kerry or die. Likewise, nobody reading this blog ought to care too much who I voted for. I have my reasons, and I consider myself smarter than the average bear, but if you're looking for guidance from a lower echelon SF writer like me, maybe you should sit this one out.
