Plain Banter
. . . lies about science fiction, and everything else.

When the writer becomes the center of his attention, he becomes a nudnik. And a nudnik who believes he's profound is even worse than just a plain nudnik. -- Isaac Bashevis Singer

I relinquish my crown

I won the Anlab award last year for best short story. That's Analog magazine's annual readers' poll. I only had one story in the magazine last year, "Dibs," but it got a bit of buzz, and I thought it was slightly possible I would take another award this year.

I can tell you with reasonable certainty that it's not going to happen. The Nebula awards are taking place this weekend in Chicago, and Dell Magazines always gives out the Anlab and Asimov's awards at a breakfast on the Saturday of Nebula weekend. The folks who have won in each category are invited to the breakfast. I was not.

So, congratulations to those of you who won this year. You already know who you are.
