I just heard a radio documentary about folk musician Tommy Sands in which he related the story of Vedran Smilovic, the 'cellist of Sarajevo' who played for 22 days to "daily offer a musical prayer for peace" after 22 people were killed while waiting in a line at the baker's shop. He then continued this civil disorder for another 18 months, and became an example to the collective conscience of his city. Where are the folk singers and other musicians in Lebanon? Beirut, Tyre, etc? Where are the folk singers and other musicians in Israel? Jerusalem, Haifa, etc? Where are the folk singers in Washington? Where are the folk singers in Canberra?
