Megan was an employee of mine. Shortly after being hired, her father came to us, and stated that Megan has some learning disabilities, her cognitive thinking wasn't wired quite right. After working with her for some time, we found she was very sweet, and perhaps her greatest attribute was dealing with young children. At points, the mothers of these kids would want Megan to shut up, and take the order, as they were hungry, and a long line of folks behind them. Megan never much cared about speed, but wanted each and every child to know they were special. She would ask, "how old is he/she?" at which the parent once responded, "She is two", and Megan then asked, "how long has she been two?"...This perplexed the mother, so I jumped in and said, "since her birthday Megan, take their order!" Megan was nearly the same way with the dogs that came through the drive-thru. She would always ask what kind of dog, and say back that she had a "Shits-a-poo"...That would always get some sort of laugh, even if she didn't understand quite why, so she just kept telling them. I always told her that my dog shits a poo, too. One day, a loud, barking dog came through in a car. Megan not only was brave, talking to the driver about the dog, but she reached out, and tried to pet it. That got the dog agitated, and he reached out and bit her! Now Megan was upset, not hurt so much as startled, and everyone in the store could not contain themselves. I was not present at the time, but I got a call from one of the other managers, who could barely speak. I thought he may be wetting himself with laughter at this. He said he thinks we have solved the dog petting, dirty hands issue with Megan. She may never pet another dog again! ummmm.....YAY?!?! Still to this day, I think of Megan, each time I hear a dog barking from the drive-thru. I have loads of "Megan Stories" in my brain, perhaps an entire books worth. I will periodically leave on here for your amusement. |
