Megan worked a register for us. She was very outgoing and personable, she just didn't think straight. When our establishment first started using "little machines" for credit card users, instead of cash only, there was a bit more brain cells required. I will try to explain, as best I can... The process wasn't free for the users. We charged a fee, of fifty cents per transaction. We didn't actually collect that money, it went to the folks whom owned those "little machines". So, let's say your meal was $5.00, to keep this simple. Let's also say, you chose to get $20.00 cash back. Megan rings up your meal on a register. She then puts your total onto the "little machine", and when it prompts her, she tells it you would like $20. It spits out a receipt for you, that she takes to her register, and types in the total, it being $25.50 that it has just taken from your bank account. The cash drawer springs open, and the computer tells her that your change is...you guessed it, $20.50. You have just gotten a fifty cent instant rebate of your transaction fee! She must have done this for quite a while before I realized what she was doing. When I did get wind of it, I muttered under my breath, "that's retarded", and she started crying, saying I called her retarded. ummmmm....oopsie....I said, no, I didn't call you retarded, I said the "little machine" is retarded, and she pulled herself together a bit....go figure. |
