Soon after waking this morning, I headed out to water the tomato tree. It really is quite big, and has loads of 'maters on it. I have been picking them, and hope to make salsa or something, but who knows? I grabbed the two water containers (ok, so they are empty milk jugs) and headed inside to fill them. I was wearing flip-flops at the time, and somehow one foot landed funny, sort of halfway on the sidewalk, and halfway in the flowerbed. It all happened in slow motion, I remember thinking I could catch myself, and scooting forward, and still falling, and turning a bit, looking for a soft landing (ummm, not gonna happen on the sidewalk, or cement stairs). I swear the actually fall took a few minutes to happen, and yet there was NOTHING I could do, I was falling, and it was going to hurt. I think my left breast took the majority of the impact, across the bottom step, sort of an airbag imployment. Let's just say that hurt like hell, but I didn't feel that yet, my left knee, and both palms were yelling at me. I laid there, on my fat belly for at least a full minute, hoping none of the neighbors could see me laying there. Then I started wondering if I could get up all by myself. I had to roll to the right, away from the steps, then try not to drag my knee or toes on the sidewalk. I ended up sitting on that bottom step to size up my injuries. It felt as if both palms were torn up, but alas, no, there was no skin torn, just full of tiny particles, and very red. Two toes had abrasions, and bleeding, and my knee. I swear I have not skinned my knee this badly since I was twelve years old. Must have gone through every layer of skin I had on it. One big raspberry, and extrememly painful. I took a couple of pictures, and sent them to Mike, the boss, and Kay. I then attempted to clean the wounds with peroxide spray. That felt okay, as I was in the shower stall. It was the actual water running during the shower that sent me yowling in pain. My knee was throbbing severly, and I had to get to work. I dressed myself, and apparently my pants hem hits right at torn-up toe level, and that sent my crying again. Sheeesh...what a wimp! I decided I was going to ride the Beemer anyway, and slid that foot into my riding boot. The imprints on my boot are to shift with the right side of my left foot, and I thought that "the piggy that had roast beef and the piggy that had none" would be safe from shifting...yeah, not so much...I was fine downshifting, but upshifting did indeed hurt again. I had covered the knee with a big bandaid and neosporin. I made it all the way through work with only one 'stupid me' incident, I got down on that knee to reach something in a bottom shelf, when I suddenly remembered. OUCH! I found it hard to believe that not one person stepped on my foot today. On any other day, that always happens. I was lucky in that regard, I guess. I still have the knee covered, I will clean it out, and redo the bandage in the morning. I made an alfredo sauce (from scratch), served with cheese tortelini (from Costco), and grilled chicken (from mcds, I cheated) along with garlic green beans. |
