A "G-Rated Journal" That Even My Mother Can Read (because she does!)

Effervescence is a state of mind. It's about choosing to bring sunshine to the day.

Workshop Wonders

Sat Aug 27 - Today was the bulk of the weekend workshop. And the general consensus is "Our brains are full!"

Let's see, the things that have happen today have included: Various people working on spinning wheels, spinning on drop spindles, a special spinning class on how to spin flax (the fiber that goes into linen), kumihimo (a Japanese cord-braiding technique), lucet (a European cord-braiding technique), carding wool and producing a rolag on cards, combing wool and producing pencil roving on combs, how to do a long-draw on a great wheel, mixing dye recipes for cochineal, indigo, osage orange, tannin, madder, brazilwood, various tie-dye techniques, how to prepare roving for dye pots, how to use mordants, how to brew beer [well, not so much a teaching class as one of the guys just brewed 10 gallons right there while we worked on everything else], using acid dyes and creating gradient dye results, spinning silk, working with beads, making wire-wrapped jewelry, studying historical rosaries and paternosters.... As you can see, even just a sampling of everything going on all day and evening could be overwhelming! (And I'm certain I've left out something, since I was busily taking photos all day and couldn't attend everything.)

Coffee Bar was a big hit at breakfast, and again for dessert in the evening. And I've gotten two requests to bring Coffee Bar to additional events through the end of the year. My next addition might have to be how to serve decaf coffee, since there were three people at this event who wanted coffee but couldn't drink caffeine. And the soy-chocolate-confection that I made just for Sherry and me turned out heavenly, so I'm really pleased with that, too.

Finally, with all the day-tripping attendees and the folks who couldn't get here last night, there are probably 60 people here total. What a wonderful turn out!
