2008-10-22 7:39 PM Cars of Splendoor and Clean Homes Some Interesting Car Facts - So lately, I've been a little bit more panicky about my car than usual. And of course, I haven't mentioned much here because some of you well-meaning, adoring, loving friends and family just WISH AND PRAY that I would get a new car soon, so you can stop worrying about me. Yes my dears, I'm working on that. But in the meantime, I ADORE my car -- and yes, I understand that many (or just some) of you think it's an unreasonable thing that I love my Festiva of Splendoor this much.
Well, something I'd been keeping silent about is that my speedometer/odometer stopped working right before I went to GWW. I drove to the office just fine, everything working as usual. Parked my car, went about my day, and then left the office to go to my sister's for the night before setting up my camping equipment at the GWW site. I got in my car after 10 pm, and my speedometer and odometer didn't work. So I took special notice to jot down every street I took, every exit, every little detail about where I drove. Went to my sister's, went to the site, went home, and promptly called my car guys for some assistance. My normal car guys said they weren't likely to be able to fix it, but recommended the electrical shop I'd just been to a few weeks earlier when I'd burnt out a fuse cable or something. Sadly, the electrical car guys are HORRIBLE about remembering to call me back, and I just haven't had the time to chase them down as much as I'd like. Good news: They think they can fix it, and they think they can get the part. And I have this Friday off in my regular "scheduled day off" routine from work. So I'm taking it to them ASAP. In the meantime, I've been *hyper* careful to write down EVERY trip I make in my car, every exit, every street, every single detail possible. Then I go to Google maps and meticulously mark each trip, every detour, every side-trip, and log each mileage into my car notebook. This evening I got caught up on the notes since Saturday, and then I decided to figure my gas mileage lately. Even with the current oil leak, every with the non-functioning speedometer and odometer, I've been getting the following kind of mileage in my car:
Yeah. Take that. I'm getting an average of 40.63 miles per gallon, over the past five tanks of gas, over 1,427 miles -- oh yeah, and paying an average of less than $24 per tank. $119.44 for 1,427.0 miles, to be exact. Can you SEE WHY it's hard for me to part with this magical conveyance? Sadly, there is a major oil leak right now, which is not only worrying me but embarassing me, because I worry when I park my car about how much oil I'm leaking while I'm parked. But I'll be in to my normal car guys this weekend, to see if they can repair the leak. They also top off my oil for free, and are just a few blocks from my apartment. So at least once a week or so, I go and get 2 qts. added for free, and keep going. I like to keep 1-2 qts in my car at all times, in case I ever hear the smallest sign of the "ticking noise" that tells me I'm almost out of oil. Right now I have no extra quarts, but I just had the engine topped off yesterday. Anyone have an opinion about the Chevy Aveo (I still love this one the best, with the hatchback and the yellow paint, of course), the Honda Fit (I'd have to go with blue), or the Toyota Yaris (Hmm, the manual transmission isn't on the 5-door but it is on the 3-door hatchback, and oooh, they have yellow, too!)? I know, I think I've asked this question before, but it can't hurt to not run it past my audience again. (And by the way, today's random photo is not a tire from the Festiva. That's from a trailer, and from being rescued by some amazing SCA people who were on their way home from Arizona by way of Los Angeles to British Columbia, and were happy to help us get home while they went to pick up some stranded friends in LA. That story in Feb 2007 can be found here.) House Cleaning Update - Yippee for renewed motivation. I'd been thinking it would be nice to maintain a "party-ready" clean house. You know, where you can throw a party at the drop of the hat because your house is already picked up and clean? Then I found that cleaning up after all my camping events lately was a huge task ahead of me, so I set aside a whole weekend to address the house. Now I'm half-way through the week, and I'm glad to say that I've started my old habit again: Take 20-30 minutes before leaving for work to clean house. So I've been doing dishes, putting away laundry, putting away project supplies and all sorts of tidying tasks every morning this week. The work is paying off, and I'm really pleased with the result. Yay, clean house! * * * * * Today's Blessing That I'm Thankful For: My car!!! Read/Post Comments (5) Previous Entry :: Next Entry Back to Top |
