Christine's New Chapter

This is only rumor - but rumor has it that Moorpark College's Observatory was on fire this afternoon.

Fact has it that the 118 West of Tapo Canyon is shut down, due to flame. Hillsides that we passed by this morning are on fire now. The West End of Simi Valley is burning. Moorpark is burning. Homes are being evacuated there.

The billowing yellow clouds, lit from the fires below, grow bigger as I peer out my window. The ridge is backlit by flame. Surely it won't reach us. Too many roads. The wind has died down. Surely we're safe.

And at the college, they are frantically trying to evacuate the animals (there is a wildlife/veterinary (sp) portion of the school). My husband and youngest son have already fallen asleep, seduced by the promise of an extra hour reclaimed. The eldest and I remain awake.

My valley is rimmed by fire to the west. I am uneasy, and cannot shut my eyes to sleep. I shall watch a bit longer.
