At this point, even though I "tossed" the original pages and started over, I'm still not thrilled with it. If I go back to the original, I'm further along to something that I can send to New York, which I really need to do to keep her interest up. If I stick with the new version, I've got more work to do. I guess I should plow on and hope I can get excited.

But it's the plowing on that's hard. I don't want to send something that I think sucks.

I picked up a portion of the first novel I wrote, to get a name of a minor character that would also be a minor character in the new story - and oh boy. Some good ideas, but lots of skimming over scenes - not fully realizing the emotional content. Some bad habits - lots of 'ly' words, but not as many as I'd feared. (Lots of internal dialog and lots of description, which is so far from where I am now that it's funny, as that's one of the main problems I'm having in the new story - all dialog, very little description. A happy medium would be fantastic.)

The Gina story is short too, only 70K - I thought it was longer. It certainly FELT longer when I was writing it. But I'm having a hankering to get back to that one now, and I'm fighting the hanker. And yet and yet and yet...with additional pages, it has the sweep and scope of a Harlequin Women's fiction. And I'm going to need SOMETHING to pitch at Nationals this summer.

Gotta stop the procrastination bus and just get off. Now if only I can figure out who's driving...
