Going over the handout Jill provided at her talk at our last LARA meeting. Between her 'scene and sequel' and something my new critique partner said, the solution for the manuscript finally clicked. I got the necessary ingredient I needed to make everything work. Yes, it's going to take some rewriting, but very little overall, so that's a huge relief.

Did some sweeping of sidewalk yesterday, so the arm hurts today - stupid arm. Oh, and learned an interesting thing about sex from 'Dawson's Creek'. As Jen put it (and I'm paraphrasing here): "Two people in love who have sex, well. No surprise. But two people in lust? More interesting. One person who's hiding a secret and another who's angry at circumstances, and that makes it more interesting yet. Fear, anger, surprise, lust - put a bunch of different things together and all of a sudden the reasons two people have sex are layered and complicated, and much, much more interesting."

Something to think about while writing a romance, I feel. Even if in the end the real reason is they are in love - if you add in the other stuff, that's draaama. You know?

So all in all, a good day - though pitiful writing actually done. Sometimes the typing is the easy part, and the mental work is much more difficult.
