A not-insignificant amount of stress has floated around CREDO Headquarters lately, as we tried to figure out what festivals to enter, in what order. It's a big headache, because if you get into this festival, but a while later you get into that better festival, you may have screwed yourself because the latter wants films that haven't screened previously. Combine this with the mixed bag of big vs. small festivals, national vs. regional festivals, and festivals that might have a music slant vs. festivals that don't, and it's hard to put your submissions in chronological order on your Excel spreadsheet.

Mike (executive producer) and I were reading the Sundance FAQ today, and it turns out that contrary to what we believed, there's no conflict if we get into other festivals first. Short films are given an exemption from Sundance's rule that Sundance screenings must be world premieres.

I hear filmmakers bitch about Sundance a lot because it's supposedly turned into "a big Hollywood premiere party," but I gotta say--this decision on their part is heartening to us. It flipped the switch on our whole attitude; whereas yesterday we were hesitant to submit to other festivals because what if we got into Sundance?, today we're giving each other high-fives.

Today we submitted to:

- Hollywood Film Festival
- Palm Springs International Festival of Short Films
- St. Louis International Film Festival
- Denver International Film Festival
- Hamptons International Film Festival
- New Orleans International Film Festival

And then we had to stop, because we ran out of DVD boxes.

Nothing feels better than a deadlock broken.
