This is very exciting. So we wrote to them and said so, and then said, um, what's a Director's Choice Award?

Reprinted with permission, the response from Smogdance director Charlotte Cousins:

Hi Keith,

As the Festival Director, I am involved in the screening, but not the judging. When the choices do not reflect a film that is at the top of my list, I feel a need to recognize it. No intention to criticize the judges or the judging process because all the films become my little babies and I want everyone to love them!!

However, I was personally moved by your piece and approached by many audience members about it with very positive comments. I felt it needed recognition. There was a lot of raw story-telling talent with a twist of providing it in song rather than spoken word.

This is the same with the other Director's choices - they all had very positive audience reaction along with my own desire to have the pieces recognized.

So, I was getting ready to send personal e-mails to the awarded filmmakers to ask the address to send the certificate to etc. I do also like to personally thank each filmmaker for their particiapation as well. Without you guys, there is no festival!

So, thank you Keith, for your filmmaking choices and dedication. Yours is a unique piece that will have the hurdles of established formulas to overcome. Hang tough!

I hope to see more of your work!

Charlotte
Festival Director (and really big fan!)

Needless to say, she will be seeing more of our work.
