on Free Will

At Kenny's journal, there is a discussion going on about "free Will" vs the bad things that are threatened if we exercise true free will. I explained where my faith comes from somewhat there. But I have really been thinking alot about it this morning while sitting at the desk smiling at the people coming in. And I have the following to say.

Free Will is a lot like the Laws of Physics. First-who says we know all of them. We know the laws of gravity etc. We operate under some of them with out ever expressing them. Sir Isaac Newton just started the putting them into words-he didn't actually "discover" them, they were always there.

We have the Free Will to run the red light- the consequence may be that we hit someone; we may kill someone, hurt some one. Our free will took away some else's. We pay the penalty and unfortunately, so does the innocent party. Now, imagine that we did not know the law that states "an object at rest stays at rest until acted upon" and that "an object in motion...." etc. The sudden stop of the crashing vehicles is a shock, but it is an example of a law of physics. One that we can see, hear, feel, experience. I believe that when all is said and done, the threats in the bible of 'hell and damnation' may be truly expressions of laws of physics that we have not 'discovered'. When the original stories were written, they were written for the average person of that era to understand. Fire and brimestone would provide a good scare. (example of intelligence and understanding-30 years ago-communicators fitting into the palm of your hand "beam me up Scotty" provided laughs. what is the size of your cell phone?) These were just rambling thoughts I had to get down.
