2011-07-01 6:43 AM Perspectives The other day I was walking into the ladies room at work and looked in the full length mirror. The outfit I was wearing was retro in feel. For a moment I saw my Aunt Annie. Seriously, I was looking at my father's sister. From head to toe. Hair style, jewelry, dress, shoes-everything looked like something she would wear, and then my face looked like her!!
Not unusual in most families-except I was adopted into the family! My dna is canadian-french and british. Not italian. (I know I forgot the capitals). I know the french blood has similar coloring. But this isn't the first time I have seen her face in mine and as I get older, it get more noticeable! When I was younger, I was visiting another aunt (also my father's sister) in a different city and went to a local corner store with one of her daughters-my cousin who was 2 years older than me. The store keeper looked at my cousin and said, "I didn't know you had a younger sister," We told the woman, we are not sisters and that I was adopted but she didn't believe us. My aunt had to go to the store. The woman thought we were lying to her. These type of things have only happened with my father's side of family-never my mother's. But at my age, I don't want to look as old as my aunt did. The gray/white hairs are more plentiful around the front of my face. I tend to wear my hair in a head band and pulled back to keep the curls from falling into my face, time for a style change and a color change. My hair seems to have gotten more black as I have gotten older. It use to be black/brown-I am thinking of going dark auburn red/brown with gold/caramel undertones. Dh did alway like redheads!
