I guess my writing is like those little clockmaker shops in the middle ages. With tables and all the pieces laid out. A tiny factory with many things being carefully assembled by hand. I have all theses boxes, manuscripts in folders on my computer, papers and notes on my desk, books and pens strewn about. multiple projects. One more finished than another. Constantly shifting back and forth. I will put all the gears into this one and the bands into that one. I will tighten another. I will paint the trim on the outer casings. Maybe I'll get my carving knife out for the wooden leaves and flowers, the delicate turns along the edges that must be tooled from the smooth faceless surface into exquisite forms to delight the eye and mind. That is what writing means to me. And that is why I am doing so many projects at once. if I had to work on a single one all the way to completion without rest I would probably burn out.
