Perhaps that is simply a bit of 1960s idealism that most people have outgrown; but it remains near and dear to me. I am the best-selling dark fantasy ebook author of the Dark Brothers of the Light series. I made my first short story sale at 23. it appeared in Amazons! which took the World Fantasy Award for best anthology in 1980February 2004: In The Darkness Hunting: Tales of Chimquar the Lionhawk (wildside press) Dark Brothers of the Light Series. 2004-01-16 8:12 PM Cutting down the foe I'm currently reading Sigmund Ringneck's The Knightly Art of the Longsword. It's a translation of a 15th century german manuscript or perhaps manual would be a better word in this case for fighting with the longsword and how they actually did it in those days. It is a good translation and profusely illustrated. I bought it as research since most of my writing is set in a pseudo medieval culture/world with a mix of strange technologies in it. It's the David Lindholm translation.

A very interesting book. Apparently fighting wasn't so much of a hack and slash thing back then as has been previously supposed. More and more of these books are surfacing with research and I want to collect every single one of them that I can get my hands on. I would like for my fight scenes to have as much sense of authenticity as possible. Since my sword and sorcery stories have such a mix of horror and technology, it's important to know as much as I can discover about a variety of things, even how watermills work. I have always enjoyed research and I am definitely enjoying this one. Read/Post Comments (2) Previous Entry :: Next Entry Back to Top |
