2010-06-04 11:27 AM Some eat mice, some eat Marigolds---get 'em straight (?). Once upon a time General Motors was in the diesel locomotive business and their appendage that manufactured them was known as Electro Motive Division, and it built the units in a suburb of Chicago, La Grange. Years ago GM spun off EMD and while the latter still built their latest models and supported everything still operating, they phased out of Illinois and had plants in London, Ontario, Canada and Mexico (two places in case my grammar is off the track).
It has just been announced the Caterpillar Corporation wants to acquire Electro Motive and of course the train buff community has taken note. Now I know there has been an expression over the years when a bulldozer, tractor or other Caterpillar product is around the nickname "cat" is often used. The train buffs on various boards to which I subscribe are trying to name the new division, presuming it will be approved, with jokes about "cats" and "kittys". Hey, folks, remember butterfly larvae?
