2014-07-09 11:07 AM Good to the last dropped name. One last cup of coffee this Wednesday morning. I made it myself, but am in a mild harangue mood.
Among my bookmarked url's is one from Huffington Post courtesy of Sarah about chauvinist coffee commercials from a half century or so ago. After a vivid Joe Frank essay over KPCC yesterday I am "so" sensitive to time passed. In these commercials the husband lambasts the wife about bad coffee and is only assuaged when the little lady switches to the brand in the commercial. ***HE*** is absolutely justified in the presentation. I have remembered at least one of these over all the years and wasn't tempted to take much of a look; Sarah's point and mine were there and the bookmarking was for sending to others. In sending the link to one of the literal members of the congregation I took more of a look. No, I still can't take the commercial but was reminded of how futile it is to try to inluence minds that worship the past. I read the comments. One after the other in which our enlightened users of finest crayons ask what is so wrong in these commercials. One didn't see anything chauvinistic, just one human being telling the other her/their/---to hell with pronouns and literacy----coffee was wretched. I stopped with the guys, how do I know, who said that era was much better, nay cooler, to live in and now you have to watch what you say. Imagine life with no internet, big bad male. Once upon a time "public message space" was limited. It is this internet in which in online letters to newspapers, comments to Internet Movie Data Base (look up the ones for D'Souza alone) and the Huffington Post and many more sources reflect the great monochromatic spit-bow of opinion from the Clear Channel mind set. Most of all, go out and see a pre-70's action film. I am not a de facto fan of flying prosthetics and red dyes of various shades, but, well, something tells me these strong men are. Sex? When the word "virgin" in a film drew condemnation? When saying a lot of things brought things from a back hand to a back alley mob? Well, it was an era in which there were more of "those theatres" you didn't tell your K of C youth group, or those you didn't spot in the other seats, you sneaked into. Yes, it was definitely a husband and wife in the Folger's Follies. For these on the shall not be infringes, it has had to be more interesting in the media over the years for playing house.
