Red line, blue line: violations?

In recent times the Los Angeles Kings have hoisted two Stanley Cup trophies. During the 70's I went to plenty of their home games with the bunch I hung with, and one night in a store two fellows with some kind of "Nyoo Yawk" accents insulted me in my Kings tee about the defeat of said team by the "Wayne Juzz". Southern California is openly ex-patriate and it seemed when the New York teams played in town the Forum was not so fabulous with cleanliness when all was said and done and the Kings often defeated.

This year's finals have me happy, as if you haven't guessed.

Oh, yes, New York teams----and the Flyers' Philadelphia. The Broad Street Bullies. I must admit Dave Schultz's book "Enforcer" was one of the funniest things I've ever read.

Ahem.

After the recent pro football hazing in the news, perpetrated by that fellow with the odd name corresponding to a characteristic practiced by spies, I did a search and landed on a web site called "Philly.com" in which one of their sports writers said this was a rite of passage and the alleged victim a wimp. Yes, it made me want to replace the two "l's" with "w's" after the trope-men I've met over the years. I encountered the general mentality during 60's high school football.

Do any of you think I have a long memory?

But tonight I also hooked two things together in a search and found a fellow named Featherman who asked how a civil rights organization could march for gay rights and turn around and support the right to march of a toilet church and its acephalous lemmings. The writer at Philly/"Phiwwy" would probably scoff---merely scoff if I was lucky---that I was seeking someone who agreed with me. I have had some troubling encounters with ACLU members and sympathizers but in this messy world I will still favor the "side" less likely to bonk someone with whom they disagree.

Of course, many conservatives are not seeking echoers of their viewpoints, it's all about eternal truths and defending them. I was taking down Mr. Featherman's email to write the lucky guy porbably my rolling and tumbling personal history of feeling as if I have been batted back and forth between left and right and thought, hold on, from what site have I been reading?

Why, "Philly.com". Hoist your cup, maybe there's a little brotherly love after all.

Back to the Ranger fan encounter, I usually backed down from about everything but asked these gents what they were doing out here. Why, enjoying the weather and watching Rangers on cable!

Liberals often sternly tell me about getting dirty, of experiencing. In our times there are loads of haters one can find in the chat rooms, discussion groups, and on line newspaper mail. But so much time is spent behind a screen.

And one can be a fan behind more screens than ever. Perhaps some things have been lost.

What, me endorsing the 70's? After all these years I have a contradiction to call my own.
