She's like the girl in the movie when the Spitfire falls
Like the girl in the picture that he couldn't afford
She's like the girl with the smile in the hospital ward

Subtle homages

BH: 1743

Ah, it’s being a good day so far. I feel like I’m really accomplishing stuff, somehow. I woke up about an hour and a half before the alarm, and just decided to get up. Maybe it’s just that my day feels longer than I expected.

I just sent my SCA résumé to two places. The BoD is looking for people to help copy edit/design/proofread documents and set up a style sheet for them. I briefly met the person in charge of it at Keilyn’s wedding. The other thing…I’m not ready to talk about yet. I’m not entirely sure I want to do it. I’m basically asking for info right now. We’ll see.

Whoof. Just got really tired all of a sudden. I hope I can make my quota for the day. I was super-productive all day, on everything except writing—I was going with my natural instincts for the month and doing things like filing and catching up on little things on the To Do list. So now it’s late—which is my prime writing time—and I just got really sleepy. Dammit.

I just realised that one of Ken’s bosses is named Liam, as is the hero of BH. I pretty much named him after Liam Neeson, but still. Now it’s going to be a little weird. Naming characters can be hard. Unless you’re slipping in a subtle homage (which I did numerous times in WBG, and Sarah and I will do in NM), you end up avoiding names that have meaning or association. (Amusing that I have a character named Ken in WBG—whom I wrote before I met my beloved.) It took Sarah and I forever to nail down the hero’s name in NM (Nathaniel Fox—but you can call him Nate. ). When I suggested Adrian (which associates for me to Adrian Paul; a fine concept), she thought of Adrian Monk (of “Monk”). And so on.

Finished Chapter 3, which is 1/4 of the way done (huzzah!) and started Chapter 4. Yay me.
