Less than 5 hours of sleep, but we napped on the plane (even me, the person who can never sleep on planes. My neck was in agony afterwards, though.). Met Liam (Ken’s direct boss), saw the office up here. Had a lovely lunch with Ken. Checked into hotel. I’ve read e-mail, answered the quick stuff. Now it’s time to start writing. It’s just after 2. 4:30 p.m. Slow going so far. Keep getting distracted. Amazing what I can be distracted by, alone in a hotel room, with no fiction. Must…concentrate… Have moved from desk to comfy chair and am playing Enya. Onwards. 5 p.m. 1300 words. Not as far along as I’d like to be, but moving steadily now. Only now, looking a few paragraphs up in the journal, do I clue in to the fact that Ken’s boss and the hero of BH are both named Liam. Bde. 7:15 p.m. Ken called; his meeting lasted until after 6. I almost fell asleep in the chair and have been trying everything to keep awake, including exercising while watching TV. I finally broke down and bought a diet Coke from the vending machine.
