Rain and pain

BH: 414

Ah, it’s raining. I woke up last night and listened to it and snuggled closer to my honey. This morning, my first response was to kiss him and thank him for all his work on the outbuilding roof. It may not be decorative, but there’s a lot to be said about not having to worry about six sewing machines and all that fabric.

It would be a perfect day to curl up and drink tea and eat cucumber sandwiches (right, Eilidh?!) and write, but alas, I have errands. I have something every day this week, which is adding to my stress right now. Today I have a chiro appt that will include the ultrasound test to see how my soft tissue is doing, and then I’ll go to Walmart and the party supply store (for parasols for sunny SCA events. Honest.). Then I’ll be able to come home and get back to work.

Forgot to mention: Got another letter from Baylee yesterday. She’s doing great. I’m so proud of her!

Some folks were asking about my various appointments this week. Well, today was my now-biweekly chiro adjustment and massage, along with a test that checks your soft tissue with ultrasound (a follow-up to the one I had four or so months ago). Tomorrow is a dental cleaning with ultrasound or something funky like that; I’ve had to wait for this because they needed to get the okay from my insurance company. (Which will probably have lied to them like they did to my chiropractor about what they covered. Snarl.) Thursday is the follow-up eye appt to (a) check my eyes w/o contacts (i.e., having not worn the contacts for awhile), (b) check my new contacts, and (c) dilate my eyes to check out my retinas.

All this stuff is getting annoyingly expensive. I definitely need new contacts, but I also need new glasses. Mine are probably six or seven years old. I wear them only right before bed and just after I get up, and I’ll never be able to wear them for driving (they can’t correct my eyes well enough with glasses). But I’d like to be able to see the TV clearly, for example. And the anti-glare stuff is wearing off the lenses around the edges, and I’m starting to be able to see that.

But, the insurance covers either contacts or glasses each year. So we’ll have to pay.

Then there’s Ken’s terrible teeth. He’s already coming to the limit of what the dental insurance will cover for the year—in February. This after paying a hefty deductible.

And then there’s my ongoing battle with Blue Shield about the fact that they lied to my chiropractor, but I’m not going to get into that right now, because it makes me cranky.

Came home with a massive headache. Extra-strength Ibuprofen, a bath, and Tylenol all didn’t help, so I slept for an hour, which reduced it to a dull roar. Ken brought Carl’s home for dinner, and we curled up together on the sofa and watched “Buffy”. We’re going to bed now, early. Today is officially a write-off. Everyone has sick days now and again. Going to bed early means I’ll be able to hit the ground running at a decent hour tomorrow.
